Opening Prayer

Lord, we gather together in your name to begin a new school year. Thank you for the time spent with family and friends. May we work together in a spirit of generosity and service. Ours is a noble calling. We each bring different gifts and talents to this community.

Help us to be a model for the students we teach by living the values of Jesus.

Hymn – Open My Eyes

Open my eyes, Lord. Help me to see your face…

Reading -  Romans 12:4-8

Concluding prayer

We pray for the patience to teach our students wisely.

We pray for compassion to encompass all our students.

We pray for the vision of Jesus to see the good in all people.

Give us the energy and hope to carry out our ministry within our school community.

Lenten Journey

easter 2120344 340

This week we start our Lenten Journey. Lent offers us all a very special opportunity to grow in our relationship with God and to deepen our commitment to a way of life, rooted in our baptism. Jesus invites us to a ‘change of heart’.

A Reflection

Blessed are the poor in spirit (theirs is the kingdom of heaven)

For they use what God has given them for what is good, right, just and true.

Blessed are those who mourn (they shall be comforted)

For to stand in solidarity with those who mourn is to bring them the consolation of God.

Blessed are the meek (they will inherit the earth)

For God will raise up the meek, and they will be a sign of God’s compassionate love.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness (they shall be filled)

For hearts emptied of self-centredness can and will be filled by a never-ending well of love for God and neighbour. This love will always bear fruit.

Blessed are the merciful (they will receive mercy)

For to be merciful is to be truly human as an image of God. Mercy is the hallmark of God’s Kingdom.

Blessed are the pure in heart (they shall see God)

For the heart is that place where the mind, the will, the spirit and emotions come together. All peoples are called to this single-hearted love.

Blessed are the peacemakers (they will be called children of God)

For there can be no peace without the justice of right relationship with God and neighbour.

Blessed are the persecuted for righteousness’ sake (theirs is the kingdom of heaven)

A true love of God goes hand-in-hand with love of neighbour. The kingdom of heaven is alive and flourishing in righteous hearts.

Blessed are those that are reviled, persecuted and slandered on Christ’s account (great is their reward)

For those who strive to live prophetically as Christians will share in Christ’s reward.

Peace

doveup1

Lord, our hearts are longing for your peace, and the whole world cries out for justice and mercy. During this period of Lent give us the grace to seek peace among ourselves and those around us.

Let us be the voice of justice so that the starving will be fed, those that are thirsty have enough to drink, the naked are clothed, the homeless have shelter, and all in need will know your saving power. We ask this in the name of Jesus who lives among us. Amen

Be Still / Stop / Listen

boy prayer

Be Still

“Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10

  • Prayer

Take the time each day to be STILL in the presence of the Lord.

STOP – thinking, planning, worrying about – family, friends, future, jobs, past, clothes…

LISTEN

Be silent and rest in the Lord’s arms

Be still and let His love speak.

Be calm and trust in the Lord.

Play the Hymn:“Be Still, friends” by Frank Andersen

I ask you, my friends, to be still;

and know that I am here with you.

The longing in your heart I will fill;

for I now make my home in you!

Reading: 1 Kings 19:9-12

Prayer

Lord, teach me how to pray – to be still, silent and calm. Help me to have a stillness of heart in my day to day life. Help me to learn to listen and open my heart. Teach me that way of being in which I meet and encounter the stillness and peace in my heart that comes from the trust that YOU ARE WITH ME ALWAYS.

Teaching

One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child. Carl Jung

Prayer

I want to be able to teach my students to:

  • live life to the full
  • be able to choose the proper path
  • know right from wrong
  • grow in wisdom and grace
  • listen and question
  • excel
  • respect others
  • ...

Help me Lord, as a teacher to play my part in the development of the students under my care. Help me to be the teacher who has the time to stop and get to know my students. Time to listen and understand the differences in each individual student.

 Discipleship

Opening Prayer:

As followers of Jesus, we are called to face the challenges of our day with deep faith and trust in the God who journeys with us.

Stewardship

Stewardship of God's Gifts

We have all been chosen to serve Christ. Each of us has been equipped by God to do so with special gifts.

Ascension

jesusoncloud5

Reading: Luke 24:46-53 - Jesus is taken Up to Heaven

Jesus directs the disciples to return to Jerusalem to await the fulfilment of his promise to send them the Holy Spirit.

It is the Holy Spirit whom they receive and who empowers them to be faithful witnesses “to the ends of the earth.”

Prayers

Lord, let us pray to God the Father, through Jesus Christ his son, who was taken up to heaven and intercedes for us at His right hand.

Let us pray for our fellow staff members and students, so that we may recognise the risen Christ in each and every person as we encounter them every day.

Lord hear us

Through the Spirit, lead us in love to live for Jesus and to proclaim of Jesus to all who will listen.

Lord hear us

May the Holy Spirit empower us, as teachers, to be witnesses of Jesus for our students.

Amen

Reflection

“Our faith is stronger than death, our philosophy is firmer than flesh, and the spread of the Kingdom of God upon the earth is more sublime and more compelling.”

Dorothy Day

So, do not stay too long on the mountain. The Kingdom of God is waiting to be spread. Sooner or later, we all must turn our eyes from the heavens, and direct them to the earth, and walk back into the world.

Sooner or later, we have to go and make disciples of all nations.

Let us Pray

That the breath of the Spirit will descend upon us.

Father in heaven,

For fifty days we have celebrated the fullness of the mystery of your revealed love.

As a school community we gather together in prayer, open to receive the Spirit’s flame.

May it come to rest in our hearts and disperse to all those we touch. With one voice may we praise your name in joy and thanksgiving.

Response: Lord send out your Spirit and renew the face of the earth.

Trinity

ct11

Let us pray
This Sunday we celebrate the Most Holy Trinity, we come before you Lord to offer our praise and adoration.

You are God the creator, source of light, beauty and power.

You are Christ the Saviour of the world, made flesh to set us free, the way of faith, hope and love.

You are the Spirit of truth and love, willing to dwell in us, the fire of love, the fount of wisdom and the bond of unity.

You are holy and blessed. One god, eternal Trinity, be near to us the people formed in your image, and close to the world your love brings to life.

Lord we ask you to walk with us into the coming week. Help us to guide those who have been placed in our care.

We give thanks for our school community, and gladly acknowledge all the gifts you have given us, we ask you to open wide our hearts and share your love with those we encounter.

Help us to open our hearts to the creative power of the Father, the compassion of the Son, and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

Amen

Walk with us always. Give us the fire of courage, of strength and of confidence to believe that you are with us always. The times when we are afraid and uncertain, where injustice threatens, you will give us the words to say and the wisdom to know what to do.

Reading from Isaiah 1:11,15,16-17, 27

God says this: ‘What are your endless sacrifices to me? You may multiply your prayers; I shall not listen. Rather, cease to do evil; learn to do good; search for justice; help the oppressed; be just to the vulnerable; plead for justice for the powerless. Doing justice will redeem you, integrity will win your forgiveness."

This is the word of the Lord

Response: Thanks be to God
